How to start meditating from scratch

Starting meditation seems difficult only at first glance. In fact, it is one of the simplest practices, but the main difficulty lies in regularity and the right approach.
First of all, it is worth understanding: you do not need a special place, equipment or ideal conditions. Meditation can take place anywhere - at home, in the office or even in transport.
The best way to start is to meditate on breathing. This is a basic practice that is suitable for absolutely everyone. It is simple and at the same time effective.
Sit comfortably. Your back should be straight, but without tension. You can sit on a chair or on the floor. Put your hands on your knees or just relax.
Close your eyes or leave them slightly open. Pay attention to your breathing. You do not need to change it. Just observe: how the air enters and exits.
After a few seconds or minutes, you will notice that thoughts begin to distract you. This is normal. You do not need to get angry or try to stop them. Just notice that you are distracted, and gently bring your attention back to your breathing.
This is the essence of the practice.
One of the main mistakes of beginners is expecting a quick result. Many people think that after the first meditation they will feel complete peace. But meditation is a skill that develops over time.
Sometimes during practice it may seem that nothing is happening. But even at such moments, attention training is taking place.
Another important thing is not to evaluate your practice. There is no “good” or “bad” meditation. There is only experience.
It is recommended to start with 5 minutes a day. Over time, you can increase it to 10–15 minutes. But it is important not to overload yourself.
It is also useful to create a small ritual. For example, meditate at the same time - in the morning or in the evening. This helps to form a habit.
If it is difficult to meditate on your own, you can use audio or a timer. But the main thing is not to complicate the process.
Meditation doesn’t require perfection. It only requires presence.
Over time, you will begin to notice changes: more peace, better concentration, less reactivity. But these changes come gradually.
Starting is the most important step. And the best thing you can do is just start.
